Dr. Jeanne was my first hypnosis teacher. She was affiliated with the American Board of Hypnotherapy, from whom I received my first hypnosis certification.
What an amazing lady she was. Dr. Jeanne seemed to personally know everybody who was anybody in the field of hypnosis. Into her seventies, she still loved to attend seminars and workshops, meeting people and picking up new ideas and techniques.
She worked with me one-on-one in a kind of master-apprentice relationship. She exposed me to a dizzying array of styles and teachings, combining the best of the old masters of hypnosis with the hottest new cutting-edge techniques.
Dr. Jeanne passed away in 2004. I imagine she's now on a grand tour of the universe, meeting new people, seeing new places, and having a great time doing it.
Dick Sutphen was an author, artist, psychic seminar leader, spiritual hypnotherapist, trance researcher, producer of hundreds of hypnotic CD recordings, and all around awesome spiritual explorer and teacher.
In the late 70's I picked up a copy of his inspirational book, “You Were Born Again to be Together.” This enthralling study contained several case histories relating to 'soulmates,' couples who reincarnate to be together, over and over again. I had already become fascinated with the concept of Past Lives, and this book had such a spiritual flavor, and a ring of truth. As a teenage mystic and an incurable romantic, it was food for my mind and heart.
Years passed, and eventually my fascination with Past Life Regression vaulted me into the world of hypnosis. It was exciting for me, like coming full circle, to finally meet Mr. Sutphen while taking his Past Life Regression training. I was thrilled to continue to study with Mr. Sutphen from time to time at his various seminars, and I continue to use many of his techniques because of their effectiveness and their high spirituality.
While haunting the bookshelves in a local library, I stumbled across Dr. Newton's groundbreaking work, “Journey of Souls.” Reading about his discoveries of Soul Groups, Councils of Elders, and Life Selection rooms, I was mesmerized. Familiar as I was with metaphysics and spirituality, I felt my mind going, “What?!” This was something new, way beyond past lives and reincarnation, reaching back into our rich and beautiful spiritual existence as souls.
Some time later, after I became a hypnotherapist, I heard through an internet group that Dr. Newton was actually training people in his LBL techniques. In a fateful coincidence, that year's training was to occur in just a few weeks, within 50 miles of my home. Opportunity was knocking; in fact, somebody up there was tapping me on the shoulder.
Michael's LBL trainings were rigorous and demanding, but ultimately so rewarding. I remember driving home after it was all over, looking at people in cars on the freeway, realizing that every single person I saw holds within a colorful soul history.
An erudite and learned man, in person Michael glowed with a charming warmth and caring. I'll always think of Michael as a king, and myself as one of his knights. I've been honored to contribute to his organization in several ways, including assisting at LBL trainings, being a Certification Case Reviewer, and helping to teach newer LBL students as a Mentor. Michael continued for many years to support all the members of The Newton Institute, as we spread his work around the world.
Michael's books are filled with spiritual insights and discoveries, but his real gift to us is his systematic method whereby we can seek our own answers to life's mysteries.
George Bien is simply one of the most remarkable people I've ever met in my life.
In younger days he was an amazing professional jazz/fusion guitarist; later, he transformed himself into one of the greatest hypnotists and hypnotherapy trainers in the world. Everything he does, he does with passion. George has a laser-like focus; he studies a subject very intensely, practices for hours, days, months, and years, and subsequently winds up mastering anything and everything toward which he directs his powerful mind.
When it came time for me to share my own hypnotherapy knowledge and experience by becoming a certifying hypnosis trainer, all roads led to George. His 'trainer training' is well known in the business, and it was one of the most intense and yet enjoyable experiences I've had. The curriculum which he created and that I pass along to others (along with my own original material) is very wide and deep, and provides students of hypnotherapy with a grand foundation from which to begin their new careers in helping and healing others.
George continues to share his passion for hypnotherapy by training qualified hypnosis teachers, and also expresses his love for music by playing guitar and sharing his considerable musical knowledge with the public via his website, guitarenergy.com.
The most important teaching of George's which sticks in my mind is that, as professional hypnotherapists, we are merely channels for healing which obviously comes from a Higher Source.
